An innovative solution for optimal management of dyslipidemia now available

Brossard, January 5, 2024 —People suffering from dyslipidemia, a frequently trivialized and even neglected silent disease, often underestimate its impact. Although drug therapy alternatives are available on the market, Mantra Pharma is pleased to inform people with dyslipidemia that a new natural solution is now available to help them optimize their lipid profile and improve their cardiovascular health. The product, named Cardiosmile, is now available behind the counter in Quebec pharmacies.

The Issue at Hand
Statins have long been the mainstay treatment for managing the hypercholesterolemia of thousands of moderate- to high-risk patients, in conjunction with other options available to healthcare professionals (such as ezetimibe and PCSK9 modulators). Many patients, however, do not tolerate statin pharmacotherapy well or fail to reach recommended thresholds despite good lifestyle habits. Upon recommendation of their healthcare professional (doctor, pharmacist, nutritionist, nurse, etc.), patients wanting to optimize their cardiovascular health can now rely on a natural option to help improve their lipid profiles. Plant sterols, also known as phytosterols, are found in fruits, vegetables and whole grains, for example, and inhibit the body’s ability to absorb cholesterol in a variety of ways.

Practice guidelines recommend consuming 2 grams of phytosterols per day to achieve a therapeutic effect. It is, however, difficult—if not impossible—to ingest such quantities daily. It would amount to consuming 19 avocados, 45 cups of boiled pink lentils, 105 bananas or 222 tomatoes. Already well known in several markets, Cardiosmile is now making its debut in Canadian pharmacies thanks to Mantra Pharma, a Quebec-based pharmaceutical company. Cardiosmile is the result of over 13 years of research and development and stands out as the only product on the market with 2 grams of pure, water-soluble phytosterols. This exclusive and patented product has been approved by Health Canada.

Cardiosmile is available behind the counter in Canadian pharmacies and can be ingested by simply adding a packet’s content to any hot or cold liquid or food or by consuming it directly.

Consequences of dyslipidemia
Health professionals widely acknowledge that high cholesterol is one of the main controllable risk factors for heart disease (including coronary artery disease, heart attack and stroke). It is, therefore, important for people to stay on top of their cholesterol levels and cardiovascular health, especially if there are cardiovascular risk factors or a family history of cholesterol or cardiovascular disease present.

A Statistics Canada study (the Canadian Health Measures Survey 2016–2019) showed that:

  • More than a quarter of Canadians with high cholesterol levels were unaware they had uncontrolled cholesterol levels.
  • Many high-risk Canadians (45%) treated with a statin still had uncontrolled cholesterol levels.
  • More than half (52%) of males with hypercholesterolemia were diagnosed and controlled, which was significantly higher than females (35%).
  • Hypercholesterolemia was observed in 28% of Canadians aged 18 to 79. The prevalence of hypercholesterolemia increased with age. It was significantly higher for the 60 to 79 year olds (60%) compared to the 40 to 59 year olds (34%).

People should always consult their physician before consuming any product intended to control cholesterol levels.
